FAQs

Writhm is a tool to help you improve the rhythm of your writing. It highlights your sentences in different colors to visualize the flow of your material so that you can see where you've repeated similar sentence lengths and know when to switch it up. It also provides stats to help you improve your writing's rhythm.

Writhm is for anyone who wants to improve the rhythm and flow of their writing. This includes authors—both pro and aspiring—as well as students, teachers, professionals, and general word nerds.

Unlike other popular writing tools (many of which are terrific and you should also consider using), Writhm is solely focused on helping you visualize and improve the lyricism of your writing. It is NOT a grammar checker, reading-level grader, word processor, brainstorming tool, or AI-focused content generator. Those other tools may offer more features and integrations, but many of them are expensive and aren't focused on your writing's rhythm.

No, Writhm is currently a standalone app only. Integrations are a top request, however, so stay tuned.

No, there is currently no mobile app for Writhm. You can access it via browser on mobile devices, but the layout may look off and your mileage may vary. It's better suited for desktop use.

Sort of yes, sort of no. Any language that has similar punctuation as English (think French, Spanish, etc.) may work well with Writhm, as it uses punctuation marks to generate its visualizations and does not care about what language you're using. However, it may not recognize non-English punctuation—for example, the upside-down exclamation point (¡) in Spanish—so it's worth paying close attention to those particular sentences. Furthermore, the instructions and headlines in the tool itself are only in English.

No. All the text you enter into Writhm is for your eyes only. We don't store any of it, and no one is able to spy on your stories or see what you're writing. There's also no save feature and the text resets every time you refresh the page, so make sure you back up your writing elsewhere.

No. There's nothing AI-related in Writhm whatsoever. It doesn't generate or recommend any content on its own, and nothing is training on your material in the background. Rest assured it won't cause any AI-related copyright or publishing issues down the road.

Yes! Writhm began as a lark when horror author D. Melhoff posted a video on TikTok explaining how to improve the rhythm of your writing. Thousands of people requested a tool that would help them do what he was explaining, and when they wouldn't leave him alone, he finally caved and built the dang thing. Now he takes votes on features and gathers feedback from the community. It's fun, and you can follow the circus here on TikTok and here on YouTube.
